MawarraLocated in Brisbane’s inner-city suburb of Albion, Mawarra is a modern 3-bedroom home with a mix of traditional design and contemporary industrial elements. The design pays homage to the existing Queenslander that was removed to make way for this new unique and inspiring home.
The upper floor of the home is a copy of the existing home both externally and internally. It has 3 bedrooms, with 2 bathrooms, a small living area at the top of the stairs with a rap around veranda with a bull noise roof.
The design of the lower floor and carport is industrial in style with floor to ceiling windows and doors to take advantage of natural light and ventilation. Polished concrete was used for the floor with steel portal “I” beams for the ceiling and wall supports. Exposed brick was used throughout for warmth and to complete the industrial style of the design.
To save space, a powered coated steel spiral stair case was design to connect the ground and upper floor areas.
From the street the home presents as a renovated Queenslander and fits the with the traditional character of the area. However, once you have passed through the gate, a modern contemporary home appears.
